TRUE self-defense requires more than the simplicity of KNOCKING THE CRAP out of someone. You have to possess the skills to SEIZE IMMEDIATE PHYSICAL CONTROL of a situation without extreme violence.
Sometimes you only need to break the grip of someone and not their face. The need for this can be in situations as such:
1. A friend grabbing you when you don't want to be grabbed.
2. Your being grabbed by someone who you have not yet identified as a threat or friend.
3. A person grabbing you who you are not yet prepared to start a violent confrontation with such as a 250lb man grabbing a teenage girl.
The only effect that her cardio kickboxing punch to his face is going to have is to piss him off and make him punch her back in hers.
