How To Retreat From The "Hot Zone"
Basic Footwork is an important tool. It allows you to engage your target and position yourself to attack your foe.
Basic Footwork is also what retreats you from the hot zone when you are absorbing too much damage or are overwhelmed by your foe’s attack.
It regulates balance when moving, and the positioning of your feet when blocking or striking during movement, which can determine how effective your technique will be.
When using Basic Footwork the foot that is closest to the direction that you are going in is the foot that will move first.
The other foot will follow. Keep your knees bent; stay on the balls of the feet so you maintain a solid and light-footed base.
Don’t allow your feet to come too close together and don’t cross your feet or legs.
Use your Basic Footwork to position yourself in and out of Strike Zones.
